about

The starting point for this album was a series of experiments with a random soundscapes and drones generator.

The direct to disk recordings made with this instrument are the basis of the eight compositions of "Immersion".

I find in this way of creating music the same part of improvisation, of randomness, but also of deep necessity that I experimented with the analogical synthesizers, in particular my ARP 2600 (I had three of them at a certain time! I still have one today).

Around these soundscapes, I built compositions in an intuitive way, by choosing the sounds, by letting me guide by the feeling, the harmonics, the images arising with the listening.

It's immersive music, because it asks the listener to immerse himself, like me, and to be carried by the waves, the harmonics, the pulsations and the sounds.

It is "serious" ambient music, a listening experience, a shared moment of life, between you and me.

My musical references will easily appear to you, even if I am not in a slavish reproduction mood.

I listened a lot to Brian Eno, Harold Budd, Californian synthesists (Steve Roach, Michael Stearns...) and Berliner sorcerers (Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream... even if I obviously deviate from the standards of the Berlin School...).

Finally, I would like to dedicate this album, and in fact all my music on this Bandcamp page, to two guys.

Serge Leroy, co-founder of Lightwave, who gave me the first impulse, and made me buy my first synth (an ARP 2600!), and played an essential role in the first steps of my musical adventures.

And Christoph Harbonnier, my friend for 37 years, copilot of Lightwave with me, for the path we have travelled together, the joys, the challenges, the difficulties, the shared vision, the mutual trust and respect.

The story continues to be written...

REVIEW

"IMMERSION has eight pieces in the region of 5 to 15 minutes, each of them a different facet of exploration, some of it serene and beautiful, some of it strange and almost disturbing. Christian's take on "immersion" is not only of the sub-aquatic type, but also submersion in ideas, the psyché and such-like.

It's surprising how the germ of an idea in one word can be so important to an album. I get the impression with this one that Christian is using
a lot of computer synthesis, as some of the scattering and fragmentation of the sound used is of the type I've only ever personally
encountered when using computer software like Spektral Delay or Granulab. Interesting stuff though, and probably the most original and
creative of these four releases"
